Room 2: Prehistory to Iberians

Throughout the first millennium BC, hegemonic societies such as Tartessos were consolidated in the south of the peninsula, coming into contact with the Mediterranean powers, mainly the Greeks and Phoenicians, through colonies and intense trade. From this process of socio-economic transformation in the various indigenous settlers, the first manifestations of Iberian culture were derived from the 6th century Before Christ onwards. La Carolina is located within the territory of the Iberian Oretans, which extended over a large part of the province of Jaén and the south of Ciudad Real, in the orbit of action of the great cities or oppidum such as Cástulo (5 km from Linares). All this territory specialised in silver and lead metallurgy, acquiring great fame and a strategic position.
